Gameplay & Mechanics

SOURCE CONTENT

Our first story utilizes material from Dungeons & Dragons (5th Edition), including:

  • D&D official sources, such as the Player’s Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft, and Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything

  • Third party sources, especially Valda’s Spire of Secrets by Mage Hand Press

  • Homebrew content developed by GM Mischa Stanton, and/or in collaboration with players and friends of the show!

RACES, SPECIES, ORIGINS, & LINEAGES

As players, we recognize the ongoing issue of portraying “race” as a core mechanical feature in tabletop games and in D&D especially. D&D reckons with this too, and has announced an effort to move away from “race” as it is currently used in-game, likely moving to “species.” Recent sourcebooks have included alternative ways to develop a character’s history, with origins and lineages as possible options.

We also are doing our best to incorporate these mechanics and terminology shifts into our play, and we also embrace our real world identities and cultures– racial and otherwise– into our storytelling.

In New Prosper, the prominent species are Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Capras (deer-like), and Saurids (reptile-like).
